The many costumes of susan hall
Susan, occupied by schoolwork, overlooks her annual tradition of returning to an old list of Halloween costumes. She questions how she may find happiness despite her new loss of conviction behind childhood fantasy.
"But you can't wear your past like some Halloween costume. Because that's all it will be - a costume of something you used to believe in. And as you get older, you'll find that it gets harder and harder. But that's fine."
